TAX INFO:

Get banked to speed tax refunds with direct deposit

  • The fastest way for you to get your tax refund is by filing electronically and choosing direct deposit. Direct deposit gives you access to your refund faster than a paper check. Get your routing and account number by signing into your online banking account or contacting your bank.

  • Don't have a bank account? Learn how to open an account at an FDIC-Insured bank or through the National Credit Union Locator Tool. If you are a Veteran, see the Veterans Benefits Banking Program (VBBP) for access to financial services at participating banks.

  • Prepaid debit cards or mobile apps may allow direct deposit of tax refunds. They must have routing and account numbers associated with them that can be entered on your tax return. Check with the mobile app provider or financial institution to confirm which numbers to use.

Get your refund status

  • Direct deposit also avoids the possibility that a refund check could be lost or stolen or returned to the IRS as undeliverable.

  • After you file, check the status of your refund by going to IRS.gov and clicking on Where's My Refund? The status of your refund will be available within 24 hours after the IRS accepts your e-filed tax return. The Where's My Refund? tool updates once every 24 hours, usually overnight, so you only need to check once a day.

  • File electronically and choose Direct Deposit for your tax refund – it's the fastest and safest way to receive your money. If you file a paper return, you can still choose direct deposit.

Am I ready to get my Tax Refund without any issues?

December 7, 2025|1095A, Address, Government issued ID, Healthcare.gov, irs, Tax Preparation, Tax Refund

Does the IRS & Healthcare.gov have my correct address?**

That's a good question.  This is one of the most commons reasons for delay in receiving your tax refund.  If you used the Healthcare.gov or anyone in your family has used the website in the past year AND/OR if a health insurance agent quoted you a price from the Healthcare.gov website.  If any of these happened this past year you will receive a 1095A in the mail.  If you do not receive this form because your address with them was incorrect you can NOT e-file your income taxes until your obtain your 1095A form.

To change my address with the IRS

  1. Print out the IRS form 8822 Change of Address, fill out and mail in:  You can click this link: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8822.pdf or cut n paste into your browser.

  2. Call the IRS to change Address:  You may also call the IRS at 1-800-829-1040 during business hours to update your address, though you may be asked to verify your identity. Get your popcorn ready and put on a good movie.  It's going to take a while.

To change my address with Heathcare.gov

1.  To change online follow these steps:

  • Log in to your Marketplace account on HealthCare.gov.

  • Select your name in the top right corner of the screen and choose “My Profile”.

  • Under the “Address” field, select “Edit”.

  • Enter your new address. If a more detailed address (such as one with your full ZIP code) appears, select it to ensure your records are accurate.

  • Update your email and phone number on your profile in the same way if they have changed.:  You can click this link: https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/f8822.pdf or cut n paste in your browser.

2.  To change over the phone:

  • Call their customer service at (800) 318-2596. After verifying your identity, a representative can help you report the change.

** We cannot emphasize enough how important it is to have your address up to date if you want to get your tax refund in a timely manor.

Does my employer or company I do contract work with have my correct address?**

1.  Call that company immediately and change your address with them.  Or many companies will have a employee web portal where you can make such changes.

** If you don't get your W2's or 1099's because your address is incorrect this can delay your tax refund as well.

Do I have my government issued ID and is it up to date?

If you are a current client this will not be too big a deal as we keep a copy of your ID and as long as it is up to date it will work fine. Please bring other ID to verify yourself.

WHEN IS 2026 TAX SEASON STARTING?

2026 Tax Season start date

Another great question!

The IRS has not officially announced a start date for the 2026 tax filing season, but there are indications that it may be delayed until early to mid-February due to the recent government shutdown. The 43-day shutdown, which ended on November 12, 2025, resulted in the furlough of nearly half of the IRS workforce, with about 35,000 of 74,000 employees placed on contingency leave. This significant reduction in staffing has created substantial backlogs and operational delays, which are expected to impact the agency's readiness for the upcoming filing season. Although the IRS has stated it will continue critical operations, including testing and preparation for filing season programs, the disruption has led some tax professionals to anticipate a later-than-usual start. The agency has not confirmed any delay, and no official opening date has been published as of this writing. This status information is correct as of 12-07-2025.
